Aboot Me

I’m not Canadian. I just like the way they talk. (Also hockey.)

What I am is Disaffected WASP Millennial #72,839. I dress like what you think a Fleetwood Mac concertgoer looks like. I come with an assortment of fun Scumbag Brain dysfunctions and several playset accessories that shoot real slime.

My interests are broad, but the main ones are language, names, typography, games and sports of all types (esp. video), socioanthropology, history, science fiction, East Asian studies, extremely dark topics, constant interruptions, contrived comparisons, weird alien sex, the 1970s, and (you knew this was coming) precious kitties.

The Mentat Mantra in David Lynch’s Dune is a favorite of mine:

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed,
the lips acquire stains,
the stains become a warning.
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

So here we have:

  • thoughts gettin’ thunk real hard
  • a ritualized focus exercise
  • a mind-altering drug whose heavy use only causes you to look cool (Dune sure enjoys that trope), here in a sort of bloodthirsty feminine way
  • …that also puts me in mind of Sappho (wlw goodness)
  • a good example of adaptation (this mantra’s not in the original books, but it fits so nicely with the lore and tone)
  • syfy

From this cornucopia of me-pleasing delights is born the Name of the Blog.
